Coordinator of Percussion at Texas Christian University since 2001, Dr. West has developed a program of record numbers that is recognized for excellence in percussion education and performance. At TCU he teaches graduate and undergraduate percussion lessons, courses in percussion pedagogy and percussion techniques, conducts the Percussion Ensembles, directs the Steel Band, teaches and composes/arranges for the Marching Band and Indoor Drumlines, and directs a Yamaha “Sounds of Summer” Percussion Camp. Under his direction, the TCU Percussion Ensemble was selected to perform at the 2005 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) and the 2005 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention. Dr. West has also developed a successful steel band program with performances at the 2005 TMEA Convention and many local venues. The marching percussion programs at TCU (Marching Band Drumline, Indoor Drumline, and summer camps) have thrived under his direction. In 2006 the TCU Indoor Drumline placed first at the PAS Marching Percussion Festival.
In addition to his teaching duties, Dr. West maintains an active performance schedule. In 2004 he performed at the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan and taught at the Taipei International Percussion Summer Camp. Dr. West has performed with the Fort Worth Symphony, Dallas Wind Symphony, East Texas Symphony, Richardson Brass Ensemble, and the North East Texas Symphony. His recital performances include appearances at Louisiana State University, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Texas Christian University, Northwestern State University, the University of Oklahoma, Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and the University of North Texas. Dr. West is also an active composer and arranger who has written music for numerous high schools and universities. He has adjudicated both concert and marching events, such as the 2006 and 2001 PAS International Percussion Ensemble Competition, the 2006, 2004, 2003, 2001, and 1998 PASIC Marching Percussion Festivals. Dr. West’s clinic presentations include the 2005, 2003, and 2000 PAS International Conventions, the 2005 and 2000 TMEA Conventions, the 1997 Texas Band Masters Association Convention, the 1992 PAS Texas Day of Percussion, and many regional schools and festivals.
From 1994 to 2001, Dr. West was the Director of Percussion Studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where he built the percussion studio to a record number of thirty students. Under his direction, the A&M-Commerce Percussion Ensemble was selected to perform a showcase concert at PASIC 2000. Dr. West also conducted the A&M-Commerce Percussion Ensemble at the 2000 TMEA Convention, the 1999 Oklahoma Percussion Festival, and at such venues as the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas. In addition to the Percussion Ensemble, he taught the A&M-Commerce Steel Band, Marching Band Drumline and the Indoor Drumline, who placed second at the 2000 PASIC Marching Percussion Festival.
Dr. West holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Arts degree in Music Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas. He is the Executive Producer of two CDs – The Palace of Nine Perfections (the TCU Percussion Ensemble) and Phage (the A&M-Commerce Percussion Ensemble). Dr. West is published by Drop Six Media and works as a clinician/endorser for Innovative Percussion, Yamaha, Remo, and Sabian.

Brian Youngblood is the Associate Director of Bands at TCU. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Abilene Christian University and his Master of Percussion Performance degree from East Texas State University. Before coming to TCU, he taught in the public schools for twelve years. He spent his first ten years teaching in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD at L.D. Bell High School where his groups received recognition for outstanding performances at festivals throughout Texas. Mr. Youngblood has also served on the faculties at the Texas Tech Band Camp, University of North Texas Drum Line Camp, and Stephen F. Austin Summer Percussion Camp. He is active as a drill writer, an arranger for marching band/percussion, and as a clinician and adjudicator. He regularly consults with and writes shows for 20 high school bands in the five state region. His drills won three state championships and placed in the finals at many festivals in the 2000 competitive season. His ensemble responsibilities at TCU include the Horned Frog Marching Band, the Symphonic Band, and the Men's and Women's Basketball Bands.

Joey Carter is active in the Fort Worth -Dallas area as a jazz vibraphonist, drumset artist, percussionist, jazz pianist, and organist, having performed as a soloist, with many area jazz groups, Johnny Reno, Brad Thompson and his Undulating Band, the Fort Worth Symphony Big Band, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Texas Wind Symphony. Joey is a member of and composer for the original jazz group Bertha Coolidge whose debut release Live at the Caravan of Dreams 030201 won the Album of the Year in the 2002 Fort Worth Weekly music awards. He is currently teaching percussion at Texas Christian University (where he will also serve as interim director of the jazz bands during Curt Wilson’s sabbatical in fall 2002) and Tarleton State University. He has also taught at Weatherford College, the University of Texas at Arlington, Tarrant County College, and area high schools and junior high schools as a private instructor. Mr. Carter was on the faculty of the University of Texas at Arlington’s Summer Jazz Camp for nine years and is active as a clinician and a guest artist, making many appearances at D/FW area schools. Mr. Carter received his Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance at Texas Christian University in May of 2000 and a B.M.E. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1991.

Paul Rennick is currently a member of the adjunct Percussion faculty of TCU, where he teaches applied percussion lessons in concert snare drum, drumset, and percussion keyboards. Having taught, written, and arranged for many of the most successful percussion ensembles in the country, he is recognized as a leader in the field of marching percussion and remains a prolific composer and influential percussion educator. Paul has been a featured clinician at the Percussive Arts Society International Conventions, Music Educator’s Association Conventions, many Percussive Arts Society State Conventions, and several international festivals.
Paul was a design team member, music composer/arranger, instructor, and percussion manager for the Tony & Emmy Award winning production of “Blast!”, recently on tour throughout the U.S. He has also been musical arranger for the Conrad Jupiters Hotel Casino in Gold Coast, Australia, and directs the percussion troupe “Stickworks” which has performed throughout Australia and currently in the U.S.
Paul has also been a member of the percussion faculty at the University of North Texas since 1991. Among various teaching responsibilities at UNT, Paul is director, writer/arranger, and designer for the 13-time PAS National Champion University of North Texas Indoor Drumline. His extensive Drum Corps experience includes percussion arranger and caption head for the Concord Blue Devils, Sky Ryders, Velvet Knights, and Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps. He is currently the director of percussion for the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps.
An active arranger and instructor for schools across the United States and Canada, his credits include numerous P.A.S., W.G.I., B.O.A., and MACDBA National Championships. Paul has been a clinician and contributing writer for the Yamaha Corporation and is currently on staff as a National Artist/Clinician with the Pearl Corporation, Remo Inc., the Avedis Zildjian Co..and a signature artist with Innovative Percussion. He is also a member of the P.A.S. Marching Committee, and has many percussion ensemble works published through Drop 6 Media.

Richard Gipson came to Texas Christian University in July, 2002 as Director of the School of Music and Professor of Music after serving for 26 years on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma School of Music. Under his leadership, the OU Percussion Department became nationally and internationally recognized for leadership in percussion pedagogy, ensemble performance, publishing, and recording. The group's five compact discs are the most recorded by a university percussion ensemble. The OU Percussion Orchestra was named the outstanding university percussion ensemble in the nation in 1990 by the Percussive Arts Society and was competitively selected to perform an unprecedented four times at PAS International Conventions in 1985, 1990, 1994, and 2001. The group's New York City Merkin Hall debut recital in February 2001 featured four works from its acclaimed Commissioning Series which numbered 18 original works composed for and premiered by the OU Percussion Orchestra and Ensemble under Gipson's leadership.
In addition to his teaching and administrative duties, Gipson performed for ten years with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra as Principal Timpanist, having performed before that with the Oklahoma, Austin, and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestras. In addition to OU, he taught percussion at the University of Texas, Central Missouri State University, Susquehanna University, and Penn State University before coming to TCU where he continues to teach. His more than 30 original compositions and special arrangements for marimba and percussion ensemble are published by Southern Music Company, Studio 4 Productions, Columbia Pictures Publications, and the OU Percussion Press.
Prior to assuming his administrative responsibilities at TCU, Gipson served OU as Director of the School of Music for five years, Executive Assistant to the President for two years, and Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for one year. He holds undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Texas and his doctorate was earned at the Pennsylvania State University.

Jeffrey S. Hodge is a native of Mabank, TX, where his parents Linda Williams and Gary Hodge still reside. Jeff graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Music from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2002, and his Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Arkansas in 2007. Since 1995 Jeff has taught drumlines all across Texas including El Paso, North Mesquite, J.W. Nixon, and South Garland. In 2006 he taught the University of Arkansas Drumline. Jeff has performed with the North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the Mesquite Symphony, the North East Texas Symphony Orchestra, the Laredo Wind Symphony, and the El Paso Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his concert percussion performances, Jeff has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention on five occasions and has played concerts in Austin, Dallas, Dennison, Branson (MO), Las Vegas, Little Rock (AR), and in nine countries across Europe. Jeff has studied percussion with Dr. Brian West, Larry White, Chalon Ragsdale, Brian Zator, Nathan Bonvouri, Gordon Stout, and Michael Burritt, and has performed concerts with She-e Wu, Keiko Abe, Darren Dyke, and Bob Becker.
