Graduate Admission (MM AND DMA)
Pre-Screening Requirements:
Prospective graduate students should submit the following preliminary materials before being asked to audition in person:
- Cover letter, résumé, and an unedited preliminary audition recording (a DVD is strongly preferred, though a CD is permissible) demonstrating the student's performing skills on a variety of percussion instruments – keyboard percussion, snare drum or multiple percussion, timpani, and drumset. The recordings are typically of a public solo recital performance, although chamber and/or ensemble pieces may be included in addition to the solo literature.
Once all of the preliminary materials have been received, and all of the application requirements met (visit www.music.tcu.edu/GRAD_admissions.asp for more details), individuals may be asked to audition in-person.
Prospective graduate students who submit the above materials prior to December 1st will be given primary consideration regarding in-person audition appointments.
Students who are invited to audition live (for admission and assistantship consideration) must perform pieces demonstrating ability on a variety of percussion instruments including keyboard percussion (two and four mallet selections), snare drum (concert and rudimental selections), timpani, and drumset (improvisation and style demonstrations including rock/pop, jazz, and Latin). Sight-reading and an interview with the TCU Percussion Faculty will also be part of the audition process.
